The establishment of the Vocational College of Diponegoro University as a study program management unit cannot be separated from the governance of the diploma program at Diponegoro University. Until 2016, the diploma program, in this case the diploma III program, was incorporated in the faculties of the Diponegoro University in accordance with the field of science. Along with the change in the status of Diponegoro University to a Legal Entity State College (PTN BH) as stipulated in Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 52 of 2015 concerning the Statute of Diponegoro University, Diponegoro University combines the management of Diploma study programs in a faculty-level institution called the Vocational College.
